the rainbow twirly dress

Ta-da!

Don’t you just want to drink those colors? (Which, now that I think about it, reminds me of an extremely creepy book we had when we were kids called The Rainbow Goblins. So scratch that.)

Evelyn had the idea for this dress and asked me to make it for her sweet little girl. All the gathering for the rainbow tiers took some time, but I’m thinking about adding it as a made-to-order item in the shop.

The design is based on the much-beloved Molly Peasant dress. This time I tried using fold-over elastic (FOE) on the neck and arms, and I am in love. It is way faster and way easier. I have really grown to dread making casings and threading elastic through them. FOE is like a magic wand — poof! No more casings. (Happy sigh.)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I LOVE this dress!!! how much would you charge for such a thing?? or would you be willing to teach a woman (me) how to make one?

Um, YES!!! I want one, too!!! Except do you think it would be kinda not as cute on a big girl? That is my favorite thing I have seen come out of your shop yet!

    Nice work, sis! :-) Betz

Nice! Where did you buy the elastic?

This is the best compliment I could think to give:

Never has anything made me want a little girl more than this dress.

    LOVE IT!

Thanks for sharing about the FOE. I’ve not had much fun with casings either and that looks great – maybe even cuter!!!

    Favorite. Dress. Ever.

Ironically, I wouldn’t let my girls wear it for fear they’d trash it!

Just had to chime in and say that my sister and I also read The Rainbow Goblins as kids — this is the first time anyone outside of the family has ever mentioned it. Amazing illustrations. I wonder why it didn’t creep me out more? (Probably because I was already traumatized by “The Tailypo.” Now there’s a creepshow and a half!) Thanks for the old memory.

You should definitely make a tutorial for this! I’d make one in a heartbeat for my two little girls!
