Flickr has been killing me with all the amazing things people are doing. I hope you are having a deliciously springy weekend. Be back next week with more photos from the sugaring!

poladroid

After drooling all over the gorgeous photo effects on Kitschwear’s Etsy shop, Drew very generously pointed me in the direction of Poladroid, a free app that gives your photos a touch of Polaroid. You can do pretty much the same thing on Picnik, but really, how much more fun is it to drag your file into an icon of a Polaroid camera, hear it “take” the photo, then watch as your image materializes?!

So fun.

inspiration: wearables

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and feelings about nursing and weaning on the last post. There were lots of sweet memories to be had, and I thank you for sharing them!

I feel like I’ve been bookmarking a thousand great ideas and tutorials every day lately. Here are some of my favorites — lots of dark solids and bright florals — mostly from Flickr (links below), but there are two tutorials in there. The individual Flickr photos have more information and/or links to blog posts.

1. Mod Cloth-inspired dress, 2. Scandinavian Schoolhouse detail, 3. Charlotte Smock, 4. 100_1273, 5. Day 25, 6. Sweet Summertime – back view, 7. patchwork pocket, 8. doily detail, 9. Shearwater Kaftan, 10. Easter skirt, 11. Bunny Love Reversible Jumper, 12. Three Roses Tutorial, 13. Nani Iro top, 14. Mink’s echino skirt, 15. Drawstring Jersey Skirt Tutorial, 16. Echino Slipper and Pillows

Happy Tuesday! Be back soon with a progress report on the Make It, Wear It Challenge, new shop items, and some more inspiration mosaics.

sorry to be obnoxious, but…

Avery just pointed me in the direction of Picnik, which I have the feeling has been around for a while, but is totally new to me. It’s a free online photo editing program, and I am in love. So please forgive me if I don’t post photos with normal colors/focus/pixellation anytime soon, or if odd cartoon characters and speech bubbles start popping up around my kids’ heads.

Since the previous post, I’ve taken stock of my Internet usage and decided to keep the computer totally off during the day. I’m not sure how long it will last, ’cause I’ll be honest — it’s kinda hard. But it feels good and right and happy — knowing that my kids, husband, and home have me — all of me — without any petty, meaningless distractions in the way. E-mails can wait until seven o’clock.

Things are pretty quiet around here — except for the fact that a friend gave us The Little Mermaid on VHS today. I had to tear Lizzy away from the TV when it was bedtime; I think we have a new favorite on our hands. It’s been hot enough to go swimming almost every day for the past week (neener, neener!), and I’m betting we’ll be seeing some under-da-sea shenanigans at the pool tomorrow.
